Weight gain usually needs more structure, not just more effort
Trying to gain weight can be frustrating when training load is high and appetite is inconsistent. Many athletes do not need more discipline. They need a better intake strategy.
The goal is to build a steady energy surplus in a way that still feels manageable for appetite, digestion and routine.
What tends to work best
Large forced meals are rarely the only answer. Smaller additions across the day are often easier to sustain.
- Add energy-dense snacks between meals rather than relying only on bigger dinners.
- Use milk, smoothies, yoghurt, nut spreads and trail mix when appetite is low.
- Make training windows count with solid pre- and post-session fuelling.
Build consistency first
A useful weight gain plan should support training, not just body weight on paper.
- Do not skip breakfast if gaining size is a priority.
- Pack portable snacks so missed opportunities do not accumulate through the week.
- Review progress over time rather than judging change day to day.
